Tree of the Month

  • By sharon

Did you know that we plant a tree at our property every month to help offset our carbon emissions?  Our tree for July is the Banksia.  This beautiful native tree is covered with gold flowers come spring and really attracts the native birds.  Our property was an apple orchard but it retains an area of native bush around the creeks.  We’re looking to clear out the invasive weed species and plant more native flora to provide shelter and food for wildlife.  Our property already abounds with pademelons (small wallabies), native hens, quolls (a carnivorous marsupial now extinct on the mainland), black cockatoos and wedge tailed eagles.  We feel very lucky living in Tasmania and to see the animals on a daily basis.
